Case IH 3501 (DTC ED1D) - ECU – Engine Control Unit (ECU): ECU internal failure - Software resets in DSM 0

The controller has experienced an internal fault that is causing its software to reset within Diagnostic Status Module (DSM) 0.

   Check the battery voltage and ensure the charging system is operating correctly, as undervoltage or voltage spikes can cause software resets.

   Inspect the wiring harness, specifically the power and ground circuits supplying the ECU, for corrosion, loose connections, or shorts.

   Check the CAN communication lines for integrity.

   Verify if there is a software update available for the ECU, as flashing the module with updated software can sometimes resolve internal reset logic errors.

   Disconnect battery

   Disconnect the machine's battery power.

2. 2

   Disconnect wiring harness

   Locate the Engine Control Unit (ECU) and carefully disconnect the wiring harness connectors.

   Remove faulty ECU

   Unbolt and remove the faulty ECU.

   Install replacement ECU

   Install the replacement ECU and secure the mounting hardware.

   Reconnect wiring harness

   Reconnect the wiring harness connectors.

   Reconnect battery

   Reconnect the battery.

   Flash/program ECU

   Using the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST), flash/program the new ECU with the correct software calibration for the specific machine model.

   Clear fault codes and verify

   Clear the fault codes and run the engine to verify the code does not return.
