3502 (DTC EE1D) - ECU

Case IH 3502 (DTC EE1D) - ECU – Engine Control Unit (ECU): ECU internal failure - Software resets in DSM 1

Issue description

The Engine Control Unit has experienced an unexpected internal software reset, which is typically caused by electronic disturbances, configuration problems, or internal hardware faults.

Applies to these machines

  • MAXXUM T4E
  • 240 Series Axial-Flow Combines (7240, 8240, 9240)
  • Magnum series tractors
  • Steiger series tractors

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the main power and ground supplies to the ECU for voltage drops, loose battery terminals, or chafed wiring harnesses that can cause momentary power loss.

  2. Determine if the code is active or stored. If it was a one-time glitch, clear the code and operate the machine to see if it returns.

  3. Use the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to verify that the ECU's configuration and software are not corrupted.

Repair steps

  1. Clear and Retest

Clear the fault code using the diagnostic tool. Run the engine to operating parameters to see if the fault is triggered again.

  2. Reprogram the ECU

If the error occurs repeatedly, connect the Case IH EST and reprogram (flash) the EDC/ECU with the latest software update, as software glitches are a primary cause.

  3. Replace the ECU

If the error persists after the module has been successfully reprogrammed, the internal hardware of the ECU has failed and you must replace the EDC/ECU.
