Case IH 3533 – Engine Controller (Engine ECU): CAN Message timeout Nox (from Nox Sensor) - CAN timeout
Issue description
The control module has lost communication with the Nitrogen Oxide (NOx) sensor over the Controller Area Network (CAN) bus. The sensor is failing to send its data messages to the computer within the expected timeframe, which usually points to a severed connection, a wiring issue, or a completely failed sensor module.

Check the cause
Scan for related codes using a diagnostic tool to check for accompanying codes that might indicate a specific electrical fault (e.g., 3529 for Open Load or 3530 for Short Circuit).
Inspect the wiring harness leading to the NOx sensor for physical damage, melting from exhaust heat, or chafing.
Disconnect the NOx sensor and inspect the pins for corrosion, moisture, or loose connections.
Verify the sensor is receiving proper voltage and ground, and check the CAN High and CAN Low communication lines for continuity back to the Engine ECU.
Repair steps
Ensure the machine is turned off and the exhaust system has completely cooled down.
Disconnect the electrical connector from the faulty NOx sensor.
Unscrew the NOx sensor probe from the exhaust/SCR system.
Install the new direct-replacement NOx sensor and tighten it to OEM specifications.
Reconnect the electrical harness.
Connect a diagnostic tool (such as Jaltest or Case IH Electronic Service Tool) to the machine and clear the error codes.
The system requires an 'error cleaning' reset after a new NOx sensor is fitted to extinguish the SCR Failure warning message and comply with emissions parameters.
