Case IH 3594 (DTC F7EF) - ECU – Engine Control Module (ECM) or Vehicle Control Module (VCM): Torque limitation caused by SCR catalyst protection

Issue description

The equipment's emissions system has detected a critical condition that could permanently damage the Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) catalyst. To protect the catalyst from thermal overload or chemical contamination, the system automatically enforces an engine power derate, significantly reducing engine torque and speed.

Check the cause

  1. Check for accompanying root-cause fault codes such as 3593 (Poor quality of reagent), 3609 (Urea quality and level warnings), or 3611/3612 (Catalyst efficiency lower than threshold).

  2. Test DEF/AdBlue quality to verify concentration and check for contamination, which is a primary trigger for SCR protection modes.

  3. Inspect the DEF doser injector for severe urea crystallization or blockages that would prevent proper fluid atomization.

  4. Check the primary filter element inside the DEF supply module to ensure it is not clogged with micro-contaminants or crystallized urea sediment.

Repair steps

  1. Address Fluid Quality

    If the DEF/AdBlue quality is questionable or contaminated, completely drain the DEF tank, clean it, and refill it with fresh, approved DEF.

  2. Replace the DEF Filter

    Remove the housing cover on the main DEF supply module and replace the internal DEF filter element to ensure unrestricted fluid flow to the dosing pump.

  3. Service the DEF Doser Injector

    If the doser injector is clogged, attempt to clean the crystallized urea. If the injector has failed or cannot be cleaned, replace the doser injector assembly.

  4. Clear Codes

    Connect the electronic service tool to clear the inactive fault codes.

  5. Perform System "Healing" / Regeneration

    Run the machine under heavy load to raise the exhaust temperature (typically over 425°F) for at least 30 to 45 minutes. This allows the SCR system to verify proper NOx reduction, "heal" itself, and automatically lift the engine derate.
