Case IH 3597-03 - BCM – BCM: LIN actuator switched power - short circuit to B+

The switched power circuit that supplies voltage to a LIN (Local Interconnect Network) bus actuator is detecting a voltage that is abnormally high, indicating that the circuit is shorted directly to battery positive (B+).

   Inspect the wiring harness running from the BCM to the cab HVAC LIN actuators (such as the electronic heater valve) for pinched wires, chafing, or melted insulation that could cause the switched power wire to touch a constant 12V (B+) source.

   Disconnect the LIN actuators one at a time. If the short circuit to B+ clears when a specific actuator is unplugged, that actuator has an internal short.

   With the actuators disconnected, use a multimeter to check for continuity between the LIN actuator switched power pin at the BCM connector and battery positive. If continuity exists, the wiring harness is shorted.

   Power down the tractor and turn off the battery disconnect switch.

   Access the BCM and the HVAC control valve area (typically located near the cab firewall/heater core area).

   Perform the diagnostic isolation checks mentioned above.

   If the harness is faulty: Repair the shorted section of the wiring harness or replace the affected harness segment.

   Ensure the new wiring is properly loomed and routed away from pinch points.

   If the actuator is faulty: Remove the mounting hardware securing the shorted LIN actuator/electronic heater valve.

   Install the replacement actuator and plug in the electrical connector.

   Reconnect battery power, turn the key on, and clear the inactive 3597-03 fault code from the BCM.

   Test the system by cycling the HVAC temperature controls to ensure the LIN actuator responds correctly without triggering a new fault.
