Case IH 3598-00 - BCM – BCM: Radio switched power - too many loads or faulty load

The circuit providing "switched power" to the radio (power that turns on and off with the ignition key) is drawing more electrical current than expected. The system has detected "too many loads" or a "faulty load".

   Determine if other components (like the speedometer, displays, or console switches) share the same switched power circuit as the radio.

   Inspect the wiring behind the radio to see if any aftermarket equipment (e.g., CB radios, monitors, GPS units) has been spliced into the radio's switched power wire, causing an overload.

   Check the cab fuse panel for the Radio Switched Power fuse (typically a 5A, 7.5A, or 10A fuse depending on the machine).

   Use a digital multimeter to check for loose pins, a loose positive wire that may have damaged a module, or a bad switch.

   Disconnect the Load

   Turn off the machine and disconnect the wiring harness directly from the back of the radio.

   Clear and Retest

   Turn the ignition back on and check if the BCM still logs the active fault.

   Test the Radio

   If the fault goes away when the radio is unplugged, the radio unit has an internal short and must be replaced.

   Inspect the Harness

   If the fault remains active with the radio unplugged, the issue is in the wiring. Trace the switched power wire from the radio harness back to the BCM. Look for pinched wires, chafing against metal brackets, or faulty connectors.

   Repair Wiring

   Repair any damaged sections of the wiring harness and ensure all ground connections are clean and secure.

   Reassemble and Verify

   Plug the radio back in, turn on the ignition, and verify that the radio powers on and the fault code is cleared.
