Case IH 3598-04 - ICM – ICM: Critical hardware damage 1 / 2 (short to ground)

The module has detected a critical internal hardware failure or a direct short to ground in its circuitry.

   Inspect the wiring harness leading to the Instrument Control Module (ICM) for any signs of chafing, pinching, or melted insulation that could cause a short to the tractor's chassis (ground).

   Disconnect the ICM and inspect the pins and connectors for corrosion, moisture, or bent pins that could bridge a power circuit to ground.

   Use a multimeter to test the power and ground circuits at the ICM connector to ensure there is no short to ground on the supply lines.

   Check the cab/instrumentation fuse block for any blown fuses, which frequently accompany a short to ground.

   Disconnect Power

   Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery to prevent further electrical damage or spikes.

   Access the Module

   Remove the necessary dash/steering column trim panels to access the Instrument Control Module (ICM).

   Isolate the Fault

   Disconnect the ICM. If the short to ground on the harness side disappears when the module is unplugged, the critical hardware damage is internal to the ICM.

   Replace the Module

   Remove the mounting hardware securing the damaged ICM and install the replacement unit.

   Reassemble and Reconnect

   Reconnect the wiring harness to the new ICM, reinstall the dash trim, and reconnect the battery.

   Software Calibration

   A new ICM will require programming and calibration using the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to flash the correct software version for your specific tractor configuration.
