Case IH 36 – Power Shuttle ECM / Transmission ECM: SOL_DUMP_OPEN_OR_GND_DIS_ERR 34 CP/SL Dis

Issue description

The transmission's Dump Solenoid has experienced a short circuit to ground, an open circuit, or the ECM driver is open. This disables the Clutch Pedal and Shuttle Lever functions, preventing the tractor from moving.

Applies to these machines

  • JXC
  • TN55D
  • TN55S
  • TN65D
  • TN65S
  • TN70D
  • TN70S
  • TN75D
  • TN75S
  • TN60A
  • TN70A
  • TN75A
  • TNDA Series
  • TNSA Series

Check the cause

  1. Check the firewall connectors between the Power Shuttle ECM Harness and the Power Shuttle Transmission Side Harness to ensure they are not disconnected.

  2. Inspect the direct connector (X-358) between the Dump Solenoid and the Transmission Side Harness to ensure it is fully seated and free of corrosion.

  3. Test the dump valve solenoid coil with a multimeter to determine if it is completely open or shorted to ground.

  4. Test the ECM output with a voltmeter (red lead to signal wire, black lead to ground) to verify that the ECM is sending the correct voltage to the solenoid.

Repair steps

  1. Locate the Dump Solenoid

The Dump Solenoid is located on the left side of the transmission, adjacent to the Power Shuttle Control Valve.

  2. Inspect and Clean Wiring

Disconnect the battery. Disconnect the harness at the Dump Solenoid and at the firewall. Clean the contacts with electrical contact cleaner and apply dielectric grease. Reconnect and test the tractor to see if the code clears.

  3. Replace the Dump Solenoid (if faulty)

Clean the area around the Power Shuttle Control Valve on the left side of the transmission. Disconnect the electrical connector (X-358) from the Dump Solenoid. Remove the retaining nut/hardware securing the solenoid coil to the valve body. Remove the old solenoid and spool retainer. Coat the new valve components with clean transmission oil (Case IH Akcela Nexplore Fluid) prior to assembly. Install the new Dump Solenoid and tighten the retaining bolts to the specified torque (typically 27 Nm / 20 ft. lbs). Reconnect the electrical harness.

  4. Clear Codes and Test

Reconnect the battery, start the tractor, and verify that the transmission status lamp is no longer flashing and that the shuttle lever engages forward and reverse properly.
