Case IH 3614 – Engine Control Unit (ECU) / EDC (Electronic Diesel Control): SRA2EDC high effort fault / eVGT motor effort too high

The actuator motor controlling the electronic Variable Geometry Turbocharger (eVGT) is encountering excessive mechanical resistance when attempting to adjust the turbocharger vanes. This is typically caused by heavy carbon/soot buildup binding the variable vanes inside the turbocharger housing, or an internal mechanical failure of the actuator itself.

   Verify the power supply to the actuator and check the dedicated 20A mini fuse (e.g., F-203) to see if it has blown due to the motor overworking.

   Inspect the wiring harness and connector at the eVGT actuator for chafing, corrosion, or loose pins that could cause voltage drops.

   Disconnect the actuator linkage arm from the turbocharger and manually move the VGT lever by hand to check for binding or seizing (indicating internal turbocharger issues) versus free movement (indicating a failing actuator motor).

   Address the Binding Component

   If the turbocharger vanes are seized, remove the turbocharger assembly and either disassemble and clean it of soot/carbon coking, or replace the entire turbocharger assembly. If the actuator is faulty, unbolt and remove the eVGT actuator from its mounting bracket on the turbocharger and replace it with a new unit.

   Reassembly

   Reconnect the mechanical linkage and plug in the electrical harness. Replace the 20A eVGT fuse if it was blown during the high-effort event.

   Calibration

   Connect the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST). Clear the inactive fault codes and perform an eVGT initialization/calibration routine to prevent triggering code 3615.
