Case IH 3616 – Engine Control Unit (ECU): Fueling Limited Due To Other Engine Fault Detected, See Other Fault Codes
Issue description
The Engine Control Unit (ECU) has actively limited fuel delivery, effectively derating the engine's power and torque, to protect the engine from damage because it has detected another primary fault in the system.
Applies to these machines
4 machines- skid steer
- Skid Steer Loaders (SSL)
- Compact Track Loaders (CTL)
- Steiger tractors
Check the cause
Connect the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) or a compatible heavy-duty diagnostic scanner to the machine.
Access the Engine ECU and pull all active and inactive diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs).
Do not attempt to diagnose 3616 directly. Look for the other active fault codes present in the ECU memory (for example, Code 3648 for Turbocharger Boost Pressure, or Codes 3650/3651 for Battery Voltage issues).
Note the primary fault code that initiated the torque limitation.
Repair steps
Identify primary fault code
Identify the primary fault code(s) accompanying code 3616 in the ECU.
Follow OEM troubleshooting
Follow the specific OEM troubleshooting and repair procedure for that primary error (e.g., if the code is for a sticking wastegate or a faulty boost pressure sensor, address that component).
Perform repairs
Perform the necessary physical repairs or part replacements dictated by the primary fault code.
Clear fault codes
Reconnect the diagnostic tool and clear all fault codes from the ECU memory.
Cycle key and run engine
Cycle the key and run the engine. Code 3616 is programmed to automatically reset and restore normal fueling once the primary fault is resolved and the torque limitation drops below the 25% threshold.
