Case IH 3619 – Engine Control Unit (ECU): Urea quality and urea warning level 7
Issue description
This is an informational and inducement fault code triggered by another leading active fault. It indicates that the system has entered a specific warning/derate stage (Level 7) because of an underlying issue with the Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF/Urea) quality, delivery, or emissions sensors.
Applies to these machines
3 machines- Case IH Steiger Series (350, 400, 450, 500, 550, 600 / STX models)
- Case IH Puma Series (210 and similar)
- Case IH Magnum / MX Series (MX210, MX230, MX255, MX285)
Check the cause
Scan for leading active and stored fault codes in the ECU and DCU using the CNH Electronic Service Tool (EST). Look for codes related to NOx sensors, DEF temperature, DEF pressure, or DEF quality (e.g., 3593).
Test DEF quality in the tank using a refractometer. It must measure exactly 32.5% urea concentration.
Inspect the DEF tank for signs of water, diesel fuel, or dirt contamination.
Check exhaust and muffler piping for leaks before the SCR catalyst or NOx sensors, as this can skew sensor readings.
Repair steps
Address the Leading Fault
Diagnose and correct the primary active fault code that triggered the Level 7 warning (e.g., replace a faulty NOx sensor, replace a clogged DEF filter, or fix a wiring short).
Flush the DEF System
If the refractometer test fails, drain the DEF tank completely. Flush the tank with distilled water or fresh DEF, and replace the DEF supply filter.
Refill
Fill the tank with fresh, known-good Diesel Exhaust Fluid (32.5% Urea).
Clear Codes
Use the Electronic Service Tool (EST) to erase all faults listed in the ECU and DCU.
System Validation
Run the engine and perform an SCR system test or forced stationary regeneration via the EST to verify the repair. The ECU must see that the leading fault is resolved before it will lift the Level 7 warning and clear code 3619.
