Case IH 3634 – Engine Control Unit (ECU): Fuel in Oil delayed refill

The engine management system monitors crankcase pressure to detect if fuel is diluting the engine oil. Fault code 3634 indicates that the system previously detected a fuel-in-oil condition, but the expected corrective action—draining the contaminated oil and refilling it with fresh oil—has been delayed or not registered by the system.

   Check the engine oil level using the dipstick to verify if the crankcase is overfilled or smells heavily of diesel, confirming fuel contamination.

   Verify if the engine oil and filter were actually changed after the initial fuel-in-oil warning was triggered.

   Inspect the crankcase pressure sensor and wiring harness, as a fault here can falsely report high crankcase pressure.

   Check for fuel system leaks (e.g., leaking electronically controlled injectors or high-pressure fuel pump seal) if the oil was recently changed but is contaminated again.

   Drain and Refill

   If the oil is contaminated, drain the engine oil completely, replace the oil filter, and refill the crankcase with the proper amount of fresh, approved engine oil.

   Clear the Code

   Use the Electronic Service Tool (EST) to clear the fault code from the ECU memory.

   Recheck the System

   Run the engine and monitor the system. If fault code 3634 reappears, physically check the oil level again to ensure no new fuel has contaminated the oil.

   Test the Sensor

   If the oil level is correct and uncontaminated but the code persists, test the crankcase pressure sensor, its wiring, and all connections. If no defects are found in the wiring harness, the crankcase pressure sensor is defective and must be replaced.
