Case IH 3675 – Engine ECU: EGR Valve Is Blocked In Closed Position. Replace EGR Valve.

The Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) valve is physically stuck, blocked, or failing to open when commanded. Because the valve is blocked closed, exhaust gases cannot recirculate into the intake manifold to lower combustion temperatures, resulting in reduced engine power, poor acceleration, rough idling, increased fuel consumption, and black smoke.

   Check for accompanying EGR circuit codes (such as 3676 or 3677) to rule out an electrical or sensor failure rather than a mechanical blockage.

   Inspect the wiring harness and connectors going to the EGR valve actuator to verify they are intact, free of corrosion, and receiving proper voltage.

   Physically inspect the EGR valve and cooler for severe carbon buildup or soot packing that could be physically jamming the valve mechanism.

   Cool down machine

   Power down the machine and allow the engine and exhaust components to cool completely.

   Locate EGR valve

   Locate the EGR valve assembly on the engine block.

   Disconnect electrical harness

   Disconnect the electrical harness from the EGR valve actuator.

   Remove EGR valve

   Remove the mounting hardware and detach the EGR valve from the EGR cooler/exhaust manifold system.

   Clean mating surfaces

   Clean the mating surfaces to ensure a proper seal for the new gasket.

   Install new EGR valve

   Install the new EGR valve and torque the bolts to OEM specifications.

   Reconnect electrical harness

   Reconnect the electrical harness.

   Clear codes and reset ECU

   Use the appropriate Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to clear the fault codes and perform the 'Reset ECU data (EGR valve)' procedure to restore self-learning parameters.
