Case IH 3689 – Engine Controller: Communication Error Between Glow Plug Unit And Engine Controller (Wrong Data Transmission)

The engine controller is receiving corrupted, incorrect, or no diagnostic communication data from the glow plug control module over the data circuit.

   Inspect the wiring harness and communication lines running between the Glow Plug Unit and the Engine Controller.

   Look for open circuits, shorts to ground, shorts to battery, or damaged connector pins that would disrupt data transmission.

   Locate modules

   Locate the Glow Plug Unit and the Engine Controller.

   Inspect wiring

   Thoroughly inspect and test the wiring harness connecting the two modules.

   Repair wiring

   Repair any damaged wiring or secure any loose connections.

   Replace Glow Plug Unit

   If the wiring is confirmed to be intact and functioning properly, the internal communication protocol of the module has failed. You must Replace the Glow Plug Unit.

   Clear codes and verify

   Clear the fault codes from the Engine Controller and cycle the key to verify the communication error has been resolved.
