Case IH 3692 – Engine Control Unit (ECU): Glow Plug Circuit Power Stage Overtemperature

The internal power stage circuit responsible for supplying voltage to the glow plugs has exceeded its maximum safe operating temperature.

   Monitor for transient failure: Wait and observe. The overtemperature condition may be temporary (e.g., from an extended cold-start glow cycle). Clear the code and cycle the ignition to see if it returns.

   Inspect the wiring harness between the Engine Controller and the Glow Plug Control Unit for high resistance or shorts that could be drawing excessive current and causing the module to overheat.

   Disconnect battery

   Turn off the machine and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts.

   Locate control unit

   Locate the Glow Plug Control Unit, which is usually mounted near the engine block or maxi fuse box depending on the model.

   Disconnect wiring

   Carefully cut any retaining zip-ties or clamps and disconnect the main engine wiring harness connectors from the control unit.

   Remove faulty unit

   Unbolt the faulty Glow Plug Control Unit from its mounting bracket.

   Install new unit

   Install the new Glow Plug Control Unit and secure the mounting hardware.

   Reconnect wiring

   Reconnect the wiring harness, ensuring the connectors are fully seated and locked.

   Verify repair

   Reconnect the battery, turn the ignition on, and use a diagnostic tool to clear the inactive code and verify the repair.
