Case IH 3726 – EDC (Electronic Diesel Control) / Engine Control Module (ECM): Fuel in oil detection : DFC to indicate that the fuel in oil has exceeded the Maximum limit.

This code indicates severe fuel dilution in the engine oil. The system detects this condition indirectly when multiple symptoms align: unexpected rail pressure drops, high crankcase pressure, and a significant drop in engine oil pressure (because fuel dilution dramatically reduces oil viscosity).

   Verify Oil Level and Condition: Pull the engine oil dipstick. If the oil level is significantly overfull and smells of diesel fuel, fuel dilution is confirmed.

   Check the High-Pressure Fuel System: Inspect the common rail and fuel injectors for excessive leakage. A leaking injector can wash down the cylinder walls and fill the crankcase with unburnt fuel.

   Test the High-Pressure Injection Pump (CP3): Internal seal failures on the high-pressure fuel pump can allow diesel to leak directly into the engine's front gear train and down into the oil pan.

   Check the Mechanical Lift Pump / Supply Pump: If the engine is equipped with a mechanical fuel supply pump mounted to the engine block, a ruptured internal diaphragm can pump fuel directly into the crankcase.

   Evaluate Piston Rings: Check for abnormal exhaust smoke, excessive blow-by, or loss of engine power. Cracked piston rings can allow fuel to bypass the combustion chamber and enter the oil sump.

   Isolate and Repair the Leak

   Based on the diagnostics above, replace the component responsible for the fuel leak (most commonly a leaking fuel injector, a failed CP3 high-pressure pump shaft seal, or a ruptured mechanical lift pump).

   Drain Contaminated Fluids

   Remove the oil pan drain plug and completely drain the fuel-diluted engine oil. Do not run the engine with diluted oil, as the lack of lubrication/viscosity will destroy the crankshaft bearings.

   Replace the Filter

   Remove and discard the old engine oil filter. Install a new OEM-equivalent oil filter.

   Refill Engine Oil

   Refill the crankcase to the proper level on the dipstick using the manufacturer-specified engine oil (e.g., 15W-40).

   Prime the Fuel System

   Bleed any air introduced into the fuel system during the repair of the injectors or fuel pumps.

   Clear Codes and Test

   Use a diagnostic scan tool to clear the 3726 fault code from the EDC. Run the engine, verify proper oil pressure, and ensure there are no active fuel leaks.
