Case IH 3728 – Engine Control Unit (ECU): Poor Oil Quality Detected - Red Lamp Level

The system has detected that the engine oil viscosity has degraded below acceptable limits, triggering a critical red warning lamp. This condition is typically caused by fuel or soot dilution in the engine oil, which compromises the oil's lubricating properties.

   Inspect the engine oil by pulling the dipstick to check the level and physical condition. Look for an overfull crankcase or a strong smell of diesel fuel, which indicates fuel dilution.

   Check the ECU for other active fault codes before changing the oil. Look for codes related to leaking fuel injectors, fuel metering unit issues, or DPF regeneration failures, as these are common root causes for fuel washing into the crankcase.

   Drain the Oil

   Safely drain the degraded engine oil from the oil pan.

   Replace the Filter

   Remove the old engine oil filter and install a new OEM or equivalent oil filter.

   Refill Oil

   Fill the engine with the manufacturer-specified grade and capacity of fresh engine oil.

   Reset the ECU Counter

   Connect the CNH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to the machine's diagnostic port. Navigate to the engine controller and perform the service tool procedure to reset the oil quality counter and restore self-learning parameters. If this counter is not reset via the service tool, the red lamp and fault code will persist even with fresh oil.
