Case IH 3732 – Engine Data Controller (EDC) / Engine Control Unit (ECU): PTO switch : Diagnostic fault check for max error of COM message

The control module is receiving an invalid, out-of-range (maximum limit exceeded), or corrupted CAN bus communication (COM) message from the PTO (Power Take-Off) switch circuit. This typically indicates a short circuit to power, a failed internal switch contact/resistor, or a CAN bus wiring communication failure between the cab controls and the controller.

   Inspect the PTO switch on the console for physical damage, sticking, or fluid/dirt ingress

   Disconnect the switch and inspect the wiring harness connector for corrosion, pushed-out pins, or moisture

   Use a multimeter to test the PTO switch contacts for proper continuity and resistance in both the engaged ('ON') and disengaged ('OFF') positions

   Check the CAN bus communication lines between the PTO switch and the EDC for continuity, shorts to ground, or shorts to power

   Verify the tractor's battery voltage and ensure the ECU has a clean ground, as low or spiking voltage can cause CAN bus/COM message errors
