3738

Case IH 3738 – Engine Control Module (ECM) / Electronic Diesel Control (EDC): Analog Digital Converter (ADC) diagnostic fault check reporting multiple errors while checking the complete ROM-memory

Issue description

A critical internal memory failure within the engine's computer where the system is unable to properly read its own Read-Only Memory, preventing the controller from reliably managing engine parameters.

Applies to these machines

  • skid steer
  • SR220
  • SR250
  • SV250
  • SV300
  • TR320
  • TV380
  • Farmall 90
  • Farmall 100
  • Farmall 110
  • Farmall 115U Pro EP
  • 580N
  • 580SN
  • 590SN
  • 586H

Check the cause

  1. Check battery and charging voltage for stability, as severe spikes or drops can cause temporary memory read errors in the EDC.

  2. Inspect EDC main wiring harness connectors to verify they are clean, tight, and free of corrosion or water intrusion.

  3. Cycle the machine's power and attempt to clear the code using the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to see if it immediately returns upon key-on.

Repair steps

  1. Reprogram the EDC

Connect the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) and attempt to flash/reprogram the engine controller with the latest software dataset.

  2. Re-evaluate

Cycle the key and check if fault code 3738 returns.

  3. Replace the Controller

If the fault persists after reprogramming, the ROM chip inside the EDC is physically damaged. You must replace the Engine Controller.

  4. Restore Parameters

If the EDC is replaced, you must use the EST to follow the appropriate service tool procedure to restore the engine's self-learning parameters (such as injector trim codes and pump calibrations) to the new module.

Parts you might need

(2)
  • Engine Control Unit (ECU) / Electronic Diesel Control (EDC)

    463212

Must be ordered to match the specific engine trim level (verified via the machine's PIN/VIN) and programmed by a dealer using the EST software to function.

  • Engine Control Unit (ECU) / Electronic Diesel Control (EDC)

    84493905

Must be ordered to match the specific engine trim level (verified via the machine's PIN/VIN) and programmed by a dealer using the EST software to function.
