Case IH 3744 – EDC (Electronic Diesel Control): EDC Internal Failure (Injectors Power Stage) - Error In Overvoltage Monitoring

Issue description

The engine's control module has detected an internal hardware or software fault specifically related to the power stage that drives the fuel injectors. The system's internal monitoring has registered an overvoltage condition (voltage exceeding the maximum safe threshold) within this specific injector circuit.

Applies to these machines

  • Farmall
  • skid steer
  • Skid Steer Loaders (SSL)
  • Compact Track Loaders (CTL)
  • Steiger Tractors

Check the cause

  1. Verify system voltage by checking the machine's batteries and alternator output to ensure the charging system is not overcharging and sending excessive voltage to the EDC.

  2. Clear the fault code using a diagnostic scan tool and retest to see if the internal failure is a hard, active fault or an intermittent glitch.

  3. Isolate the EDC: if external supply voltages are within normal ranges and the code persists, the fault lies within the EDC's internal circuitry.

Repair steps

  1. Disconnect battery

Disconnect the battery power to the machine.

  2. Replace EDC

Remove and replace the faulty EDC (Engine Control Unit).

  3. Connect diagnostic tool

Connect an appropriate diagnostic service tool (such as the CNH Electronic Service Tool or a compatible aftermarket tool like TEXA IDC6) to the machine's diagnostic port.

  4. Restore self learning parameters

Follow the specific service tool procedure to "Restore Self Learning Parameters." This calibrates the new EDC to the engine's specific injector trim codes and operational baselines.

Parts you might need

(1)
  • EDC Unit / Engine Control Module (ECM)

Must be ordered specific to the F5C engine application and requires dealer-level programming upon installation to restore self-learning parameters.
