3746

Case IH 3746 – Engine Control Unit (ECU): Injector Circuit Or Ecu Power Stages - OS Timeout In The Shut Off Path Test. Failure Setting The Alarm Task Period

Issue description

This is an internal controller error indicating a failure in the injector power stages (the internal drivers that supply voltage to the fuel injectors). The ECU's operating system timed out while running a diagnostic self-test on the shut-off path, meaning the module could not verify its ability to safely shut down the injector circuits.

Applies to these machines

  • Farmall
  • skid steer
  • Skid Steer Loaders (SSL)
  • Compact Track Loaders (CTL)
  • Farmall 100C
  • Farmall 115U Pro EP

Check the cause

  1. Check for accompanying injector power stage codes (such as 3745, 3747, or 3748) which also point to internal ECU power stage failures.

  2. Inspect the engine wiring harness and injector circuits for any shorts to ground or shorts to battery voltage, which can overload the ECU's internal drivers.

  3. Check the ECU power supply and ground connections to ensure there are no voltage drops, irregular switch-offs, or reset issues.

  4. Clear the fault codes using the Electronic Service Tool (EST) and cycle the ignition to see if the fault returns immediately, confirming a hard internal failure.

Repair steps

  1. Perform the electrical diagnostic checks on the injector wiring harness and ECU power/ground circuits. Repair any damaged wiring if found.

Repair any damaged wiring if found.

  2. If the wiring is intact and fault code 3746 remains active, connect the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST).

Connect the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST).

  3. Attempt to "Reload Engine Dataset" (reflash the engine controller software) to rule out a software corruption issue.

Following OEM guidelines for this specific code family, attempt to "Reload Engine Dataset" (reflash the engine controller software) to rule out a software corruption issue.

  4. If reloading the dataset does not resolve the fault, the internal power stage of the ECU is permanently damaged. You must replace the Engine Controller.

    Replace the Engine Controller.

  5. Install the new Engine Controller.

    Install the new Engine Controller.

  6. Use the EST to program the new ECU with the correct engine dataset and perform the appropriate service tool procedure to "Restore Self Learning Parameters" (such as injector trim codes and zero fuel calibration).

Program the new ECU with the correct engine dataset and perform the appropriate service tool procedure to "Restore Self Learning Parameters".

Parts you might need

(1)
  • Engine Control Unit (ECU) / Electronic Diesel Control (EDC) Module

    463212

Part numbers vary heavily based on the exact machine model, emission tier, and engine trim level. The ECU must be ordered specific to the machine's serial number and engine trim level. A replacement ECU will require dealer programming (dataset flashing) and parameter restoration to function correctly.
