3753 (DTC E5DD) - ECU

Case IH 3753 (DTC E5DD) - ECU – Engine Control Unit (ECU) / Engine Control Module (ECM): ECU internal failure - Injection quantity correction

Issue description

The engine control module has detected an internal memory, calibration, or processing error specifically related to the fuel injection quantity correction (injector compensation or trim). The ECU has lost this calibration data, the data has become corrupted, or the internal memory chip handling this calculation has failed.

Applies to these machines

  • MAXXUM T4E
  • 7240
  • 8240
  • 9240
  • 5140
  • 6140
  • 7140
  • Magnum 280
  • Magnum 340
  • Magnum 380

Check the cause

  1. Check for accompanying Level 2 monitoring faults, such as SPI communication errors (3252 / E61D) or rail pressure plausibility faults (3754 / E6DD), which can point to a broader ECU failure.

  2. Verify the injector compensation codes currently stored in the ECU using a diagnostic tool like the CNH Electronic Service Tool (EST).

  3. Physically compare the codes read from the ECU to the 30-character alphanumeric QR codes printed on the actual fuel injectors installed in the engine.

  4. Verify the ECU is receiving proper voltage and ground, as severe voltage drops can sometimes cause memory corruption.

Repair steps

  1. Connect Diagnostic Tool

Connect the CNH EST (or equivalent dealer-level diagnostic tool) to the machine's diagnostic port.

  2. Reprogram Injector Codes

Navigate to the 'Injection Quantity Correction' or 'Injector Compensation' utility. Re-enter the correct QR codes for all injectors into the ECU.

  3. Test Run

Clear the fault codes, cycle the key, and run the engine.

  4. Evaluate ECU Status

If the code 3753 (E5DD) immediately returns or cannot be cleared, the ECU has suffered a permanent internal hardware/memory failure.

  5. Replace ECU

Remove the defective Engine ECU. Install the replacement module.

  6. Flash and Calibrate

Flash the new ECU with the correct software for the machine's VIN/serial number, and program the injector QR codes into the new module.
