Case IH 3756 – Engine Control Unit (ECU) / Electronic Diesel Control (EDC): Reload Engine Dataset Or Replace Engine Controller If Fault Persists (Level 2 Monitoring)

Issue description

Internal software or memory error within the engine controller indicating corrupted data or an internal calculation error regarding fuel injection quantities (PoI2) or its self-learned operational parameters.

Applies to these machines

  • skid steer
  • Skid Steer Loaders (SSL)
  • Compact Track Loaders (CTL)
  • Tractor-Loader-Backhoes (580N, 580SN, 590SN, 570NXT)
  • Farmall series tractors

Check the cause

  1. Check for related ECU power supply or voltage codes (such as 3279 ECM Internal Supply Voltage Too Low or 3278 ECU Power stages irregular switch off), as a sudden loss of power or poor ground can cause memory corruption

  2. Inspect the main power and ground harnesses to the EDC to ensure connections are clean, tight, and free of corrosion

  3. Connect the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to see if the engine dataset can be communicated with and if an updated software flash is available

Repair steps

  1. Reload the Dataset

Connect the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to the machine's diagnostic port. Attempt to re-flash or 'Reload the Engine Dataset' onto the existing Engine Controller.

  2. Re-evaluate

Cycle the key and operate the machine to see if the fault code returns.

  3. Replace the Controller

If the fault code persists after the dataset has been successfully reloaded, the EDC has suffered a hard internal failure and must be physically replaced.

  4. Restore Parameters

If the EDC is replaced, you must use the EST to program the new module and 'Follow The Appropriate Service Tool Procedure To Restore Self Learning Parameters'. This typically involves writing the injector trim codes and performing high-pressure pump relearns so the new ECU can operate the engine correctly.

Parts you might need
