Case IH 3761 (DTC EADD) - ECU – Engine Control Unit (ECU) / Electronic Diesel Control (EDC): ECU internal failure - Torque request exceeds maximum torque limit

In the Electronic Diesel Control (EDC) system, this is a Level 2 Monitoring fault. It means the engine controller has detected a functional monitoring error where the calculated torque request (or fuel injection quantity path) exceeds the maximum allowable safety limit programmed into the module.

   Verify if the machine has an aftermarket performance chip or has been deleted/tuned, as modified software frequently causes torque request parameters to exceed factory limits.

   Check CAN-Bus communication, especially on larger V-engines, for master-slave communication faults due to excessive bus load.

   Use the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to scan for associated codes, such as accelerator pedal or throttle position sensor faults that might send erratic torque demands to the ECU.

   Connect Diagnostic Tool

   Connect the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to the machine's diagnostic port.

   Reload Engine Dataset

   Attempt to re-flash the Engine Controller with the latest factory engine dataset (software update). This often resolves logic errors causing the false torque limit breach.

   Test the Machine

   Run the engine to see if the fault code returns.

   Replace the ECU

   If the fault persists after the dataset has been reloaded, the Engine Controller has suffered a hard internal failure and must be replaced.

   Restore Parameters

   If the EDC/ECU is replaced, you MUST use the EST service tool procedure to restore the engine's self-learning parameters and injector trim codes to the new module.
