Case IH 3761 – Engine Controller: Reload Engine Dataset Or Replace Engine Controller If Fault Persists (Level 2 Monitoring)
Issue description
Electronic Diesel Control (EDC) Level 2 Monitoring fault indicating a diagnosis quantity path limitation due to a functional control unit monitoring error. The engine controller has detected an internal logic, calibration, or software plausibility error that forces it to limit fuel injection quantity.
Applies to these machines
8 machines- Farmall
- skid steer
- Skid Steer Loaders (SSL)
- Compact Track Loaders (CTL)
- Puma series tractors
- Maxxum series tractors
- Farmall series
- Steiger tractors
Check the cause
Check for CAN bus issues, such as excessive bus load or master-slave communication faults, and ensure CAN bus wiring is intact
Check for accompanying voltage or power supply codes (such as 3762 Over Voltage or 3763 Under Voltage) that might be causing the ECU to malfunction
Connect the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to verify the current software version and dataset on the Engine Controller before assuming hardware failure
Repair steps
Connect diagnostic tool
Connect the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to the machine's diagnostic port.
Reload Engine Dataset
Use the EST to Reload the Engine Dataset (reflash/reprogram the Engine Controller with the correct software calibration for that specific machine).
Test machine
Clear the fault codes, cycle the ignition, and operate the machine to see if fault code 3761 returns.
Evaluate fault persistence
If the fault persists after a successful dataset reload, the Engine Controller has suffered an internal hardware failure and must be replaced.
Replace Engine Controller
Physically replace the Engine Controller (EDC).
Restore parameters
If the EDC is replaced, you MUST follow the appropriate service tool procedure via the EST to restore the engine's self-learning parameters and calibrate the new module to the tractor/loader.
Parts you might need
(1)Engine Control Unit (ECU) / Engine Controller / EDC Module
463212Exact part number depends on machine PIN/Serial number (463212 is an example for 72KW F5C engine on Case IH 851FX). Must be programmed and have self-learning parameters restored.
