3767

Case IH 3767 – Engine Controller: Replace Engine Controller - Reporting 'Wda Active' Due To Errors In Query/Response Communication. Follow The Appropriate Service Tool Procedure To Restore Self Learning Parameters.

Issue description

Fatal internal failure within the engine's computer. The module's internal diagnostic self-check has triggered a 'WDA active' (Watchdog Active) state due to a breakdown in internal query/response communication.

Applies to these machines

  • Farmall
  • Steiger T4B
  • skid steer
  • Skid Steer Loaders (SR175)
  • Compact Track Loaders
  • Backhoe Loaders (580N, 580ST, 575N, 590SN)
  • Farmall 40-45-50
  • Magnum
  • Steiger
  • 240 Series Combines
  • Axial-Flow Combines

Check the cause

  1. Verify that code 3767 is currently Active and not just a stored historical code caused by a past voltage anomaly.

  2. Inspect the battery voltage, main engine controller relay (Terminal 30), and ground circuits leading to the ECU to rule out severe undervoltage or overvoltage.

  3. Ensure the CAN communication harness connected to the ECU is not shorted or damaged before condemning the module.

Repair steps

  1. Disconnect battery

Turn off the machine's ignition and disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical arcing.

  2. Locate Engine Controller

Locate the Engine Controller (ECU) mounted on the engine block or firewall.

  3. Disconnect wiring harness

Carefully release the locking levers on the main wiring harness connectors (e.g., the 89-way Bosch connector) and unplug them from the ECU.

  4. Remove faulty Engine Controller

Remove the mounting bolts and extract the faulty Engine Controller.

  5. Install replacement Engine Controller

Install the replacement Engine Controller and secure the mounting hardware.

  6. Reconnect wiring harness

Reconnect the wiring harness connectors, ensuring the locking levers are fully seated.

  7. Reconnect battery

    Reconnect the battery.

  8. Connect Electronic Service Tool

Connect the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to the machine's diagnostic port.

  9. Flash new Engine Controller

Flash the new Engine Controller with the correct engine dataset/software for the specific machine.

  10. Restore Self-Learning Parameters

Follow the EST prompts to restore the engine's self-learning parameters as explicitly instructed by the fault code. This typically includes programming the fuel injector trim codes, relearning the high-pressure fuel pump metering unit, and resetting emissions/DPF parameters.
