Case IH 3768 (DTC E91D) - ECU – Engine Control Unit (ECU): ECU internal failure - 'ABE active' reported due to undervoltage detection

The engine controller has detected that its internal supply voltage has dropped below the minimum acceptable limit, triggering an internal diagnostic fault check and forcing the system into a protective state ('ABE active' / Torque Limitation).

   Test the batteries and alternator output to ensure the machine is maintaining proper system voltage (typically 12V or 24V depending on the machine).

   Inspect the main power supply (Terminal 30) wiring harness supplying power to the ECU for chafed wires, loose pins, or corrosion at the connectors.

   Check the engine controller main power relay for sticking or early opening defects that can cause sudden voltage drops to the controller.

   Verify that all engine and chassis ground straps are clean, tight, and free of corrosion.

   Disconnect the negative battery cable.

   Disconnect the wiring harness connectors from the Engine Control Unit (ECU).

   Unbolt and remove the faulty ECU from its mounting bracket.

   Install the replacement ECU and reconnect the wiring harnesses.

   Reconnect the battery.

   Connect the CNH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to program and calibrate the new ECU.

   You must follow the appropriate service tool procedure to restore the self-learning parameters and register the engine dataset to match the machine. The machine will not operate correctly until the new ECU is programmed.
