Case IH 3769 (F-1648-03) - ECU – Engine Controller: ECU internal failure - 'ABE active' reported due to overvoltage detection.

The Engine Control Unit (ECU) has run an internal diagnostic check and detected an overvoltage condition within its internal circuitry. This triggers an internal safety/fault state designated as 'ABE active'. Because this is flagged as an internal hardware failure, the module is unable to regulate or process the voltage correctly.

   Check system voltage by testing the battery and alternator output with a multimeter to ensure the alternator voltage regulator has not failed (e.g., >15V on a 12V system).

   Inspect the wiring harness, specifically the main power supply lines (Terminal 30) and grounds to the Engine Controller, for shorts to high-voltage sources.

   Use the CNH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to clear the code and retest. If the code immediately returns upon key-on or engine running, the internal circuitry of the ECU is permanently damaged.

   Replace the Engine Controller

   Disconnect the battery, unplug the main harness connectors from the Engine ECU, and physically swap the module.

   Flash the Dataset

   Connect the CNH Electronic Service Tool (EST) and flash the correct engine dataset that matches the machine's specific PIN/Serial Number.

   Restore Self-Learning Parameters

   Follow the appropriate service tool procedure to restore self-learning parameters. This calibrates the new ECU to the machine's specific sensors, injectors, and emissions equipment.
