Case IH 3769 – Engine Controller: Replace Engine Controller - Reporting 'Abe Active' Due To Overvoltage Detection. Follow The Appropriate Service Tool Procedure To Restore Self Learning Parameters.
Issue description
The engine control unit has detected an internal diagnostic failure (flagged as 'ABE active') caused by an overvoltage condition in the electrical supply. The overvoltage has caused an internal hardware or memory fault within the controller that cannot be cleared, necessitating replacement.

Check the cause
Test the machine's charging system, specifically the alternator and voltage regulator, to ensure it is not overcharging the battery/system (typically anything consistently over 14.5V - 15V on a 12V system could trigger overvoltage faults).
Inspect the main engine wiring harness and Engine Controller Main Relay Circuit (Terminal 30) for shorts to power.
Check the battery and battery cables for loose connections that could cause voltage spikes.
Repair steps
Disconnect battery
Disconnect the machine's battery (negative terminal first) to ensure no power is flowing to the ECU.
Locate ECU
Locate the Engine Controller (ECU) on the engine block or firewall (location varies by machine model).
Disconnect wiring
Carefully disconnect the main wiring harness connectors from the ECU.
Remove faulty ECU
Unbolt and remove the faulty Engine Controller.
Install new ECU
Install the new Engine Controller and secure the mounting hardware.
Reconnect wiring
Reconnect the main wiring harness connectors to the new ECU.
Reconnect battery
Reconnect the battery.
Connect diagnostic tool
Connect the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to the machine's diagnostic port.
Flash ECU
Follow the appropriate service tool procedure to flash the correct software/trim files to the new ECU and restore the engine's self-learning parameters.
Clear codes and verify
Clear any inactive fault codes and run the machine to verify the overvoltage condition is resolved and code 3769 does not return.
Parts you might need
(1)Engine Controller / Engine Control Unit (ECU)
463212Verify exact engine trim level with a Case IH dealer using the machine's PIN/Serial Number prior to ordering. A blank ECU will require dealer programming (flashing) using the EST tool to function.
