Case IH 3777 – CNH EDC: Clogged DPF filter
Issue description
Soot accumulation inside the DPF has reached a critical restriction level, reducing exhaust flow, hurting fuel economy, and potentially causing the engine to derate to protect itself.

Check the cause
Check dashboard indicators to verify if the DPF warning light is illuminated solidly or flashing, and check if the engine has entered a derate (limp) mode.
Use a Case IH diagnostic scan tool to check the regeneration history and look for accompanying codes like 3781 (Forced regeneration error) or 3782 (Too frequent regeneration).
Verify that the exhaust gas temperature (EGT) sensors are reading correctly, as faulty sensors can prevent the system from initiating a regeneration cycle.
Attempt a parked regeneration if the soot load is not completely maxed out to force a manual regeneration before assuming the filter is permanently ruined.
Repair steps
Preparation and Safety
Park the tractor in a safe, non-combustible environment. Allow the exhaust system to cool completely to avoid severe fire hazards from high DPF exhaust temperatures.
DPF Removal
Remove the tractor hood, air intake components, and exhaust heat shields to gain access to the DPF housing. Carefully disconnect the exhaust temperature sensors and differential pressure sensor lines from the DPF. Mark the orientation of the DPF sections to ensure correct alignment during reassembly. Loosen the V-band clamps and separate the DPF into sections. Remove the clogged DPF core individually.
Cleaning or Replacement
Send the DPF to a certified facility for pneumatic/thermal ash cleaning, or replace it with a new OEM unit.
Reinstallation
Install the new or cleaned DPF using the reverse process. Always use new gaskets and seals to prevent exhaust leaks. Ensure proper orientation based on your alignment marks and torque all V-band clamps and connections to OEM specifications.
System Reset
Use a Case IH approved diagnostic tool (EST) to tell the EDC that a new or cleaned DPF has been installed, resetting the soot accumulator logic. Clear the stored 3777 fault code.
