Case IH 3792 – Engine Control Unit (ECU) / EDC (Electronic Diesel Control): Conditions non plausible for PFlt emergency regeneration inhibition
Issue description
The engine control system has detected that the operating conditions required to either perform or inhibit an emergency regeneration of the Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) are implausible. This usually occurs when sensor readings (such as air pressure, exhaust temperature, or DPF differential pressure) are out of their expected ranges, preventing the system from safely managing the soot load.
Applies to these machines
4 machines- Farmall
- Maxxum
- Puma
- Magnum
Check the cause
Check for accompanying codes, specifically 3794/3795 (Intake air pressure sensor plausibility) or 3796/3797 (DPF pressure sensor/hose line errors).
Inspect DPF pressure sensor lines and hoses for melting, cracking, or blockages (such as soot or ice) that would cause implausible pressure readings.
Check the intake air pressure sensor upstream of the intake valve to verify it is not clogged with soot or debris.
Verify engine coolant and exhaust gas temperature (EGT) sensors are reading correctly, as emergency regeneration requires specific operating temperatures and faulty sensors will inhibit the process.
Repair steps
Connect Diagnostic Tool
Connect the CNH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to read all active and stored fault codes.
Resolve Sensor/Line Issues
If the physical inspection reveals damaged DPF differential pressure hoses or a faulty intake air pressure sensor, replace the damaged components.
Clear Codes
Clear the inactive fault codes using the EST.
Perform Forced Regeneration
Park the machine outside on a non-flammable surface (away from dry grass or buildings). Use the EST or the in-cab display (if equipped) to initiate a stationary/forced DPF emergency regeneration. The engine will elevate its idle speed and inject fuel to raise the exhaust temperature to burn off the soot.
Monitor the Process
Watch the exhaust temperatures and DPF soot mass levels on the diagnostic tool during the process.
DPF Cleaning/Replacement
If the forced regeneration fails, is locked out due to maximum attempts (e.g., codes 3783, 3784, 3785), or the filter is completely face-plugged, the DPF must be removed from the tractor and sent to a specialized facility for pneumatic/thermal cleaning or replaced entirely.
