Case IH 3796 – Engine ECU: DPF Differential Pressure Sensor - Hose Line Detached Or Blocked (Implausible Pressure Drop)

The engine's control system has detected an illogical or implausible pressure drop across the Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF). The system interprets this skewed reading as a physical issue with the sensor's plumbing—specifically, that the hose lines connecting the DPF to the differential pressure sensor are either physically detached, leaking, or blocked by soot/debris.

   Visually inspect the physical hose lines running from the DPF to the differential pressure sensor for disconnected hoses, cracks, leaks, or kinks.

   Disconnect the hoses and check for internal blockages caused by soot, ash, or condensation buildup.

   Use a diagnostic service tool to monitor the DPF differential pressure sensor's live data. Check for skewed, erratic, or flatlined pressure readings that do not change with engine RPM.

   Inspect the sensor's wiring harness and connectors for corrosion, loose pins, or chafing that could cause a false reading.

   Verify that the machine does not have underlying low battery voltage issues (such as SPN 168, FMI 1), as low voltage is a leading cause of misdiagnosed and falsely stored fault codes on Case IH equipment.

   Secure Connections

   If a hose is found to be detached, clean the fitting and securely reattach the hose line.

   Clear Blockages

   If the hose lines are blocked, clear the obstruction or replace the affected hose lines.

   Replace the Sensor

   If the hoses and wiring are intact but the sensor readings remain skewed or implausible, the DPF differential pressure sensor has failed internally and must be replaced.

   Reassembly

   Install the new sensor and reconnect the pressure differential hoses and the electrical harness.

   System Reset

   After replacing the sensor or fixing the hoses, you must use the appropriate electronic service tool to clear the codes and restore/reset the self-learning parameters in the Engine Controller.

   Regeneration

   Run a manual or service DPF regeneration to verify the pressure drop readings are now within normal parameters and the code does not return.
