Case IH 3798 (F-3251-04) - ECU – Engine Control Module (ECM) / EDC (Electronic Diesel Control): Differential pressure sensor: signal range check is too low.

The Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) differential pressure sensor monitors the exhaust pressure before and after the DPF to calculate soot accumulation and determine when an active regeneration is needed. A "signal range check is too low" error means the voltage returning to the computer has dropped below the minimum acceptable threshold (typically indicating an electrical short to ground, an open circuit, a loss of the 5-volt reference, or a completely failed sensor).

   Visually inspect the two pressure hoses connecting the DPF to the differential pressure sensor to ensure they are not melted, cracked, or disconnected.

   Disconnect the sensor and inspect the harness connector for corrosion, moisture, or backed-out pins.

   Turn the key to the ON position (engine off) and use a multimeter to verify that the sensor connector is receiving a 5-volt reference signal from the ECM and has a solid ground.

   Check the signal wire for continuity between the sensor connector and the EDC/ECM. Ensure the signal wire is not shorted to ground.

   Use the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to monitor the live voltage of the differential pressure sensor. If the wiring is good but the voltage remains bottomed out, the sensor has failed internally.

   Power Down

   Turn off the machine and disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical spikes.

   Locate the Sensor

   Locate the DPF differential pressure sensor, which is typically mounted on a bracket near the DPF assembly on the exhaust system.

   Disconnect

   Unplug the electrical connector from the sensor.

   Remove Hoses

   Carefully remove the upstream and downstream exhaust pressure hoses from the sensor nipples. Note: Mark which hose goes to the high-pressure port and which goes to the low-pressure port.

   Remove Sensor

   Unbolt the sensor from its mounting bracket.

   Install New Part

   Bolt the replacement sensor to the bracket.

   Reconnect

   Reattach the pressure hoses to their respective ports and plug in the electrical connector.

   Clear Codes & Reset

   Reconnect the battery. Connect the Case IH EST to clear the fault codes. You may need to perform a DPF sensor reset or a forced regeneration via the EST to take the tractor out of limp mode and verify the repair.
