Case IH 3799 (DTC F345) - ECU – ECU: Fuel pressure relief valve is forced to open, perform pressure shock

The engine's common rail fuel system experienced an overpressure event, causing the mechanical Fuel Pressure Relief Valve (PRV) on the fuel rail to be forced open to protect the injectors and rail from catastrophic damage. The system is now requesting a "pressure shock" (a diagnostic software routine) to force the valve to cycle and reseat properly.

   Check for accompanying fault codes (e.g., 3104, 3137, 3910, 3808) and resolve them first, as PRV opening is often a symptom of another failure.

   Inspect the Fuel Metering Unit (MPROP) for a stuck or electrically faulty condition that could cause runaway rail pressure.

   Check the Rail Pressure Sensor to verify it is not reading erratically or offset (Codes 3110/3111), which can cause the ECU to over-command fuel pressure.

   Connect Diagnostic Tool

   Connect the CNH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to the machine's diagnostic port.

   Perform "Pressure Shock" Routine

   Navigate to the engine diagnostic tests and initiate the "Pressure Shock" (or PRV reset) test. This routine commands the high-pressure pump to create a sudden pressure spike, forcing the PRV to snap open and shut. This often clears debris and allows the valve to reseat.

   Evaluate Test Results

   If the test is successful and the valve reseats, clear the codes and test run the machine. If the valve fails to close, the ECU will log subsequent codes such as 3106 or 3800, indicating the valve is mechanically stuck open or the internal spring is permanently fatigued.

   Depressurize the System

   If replacement is required, turn off the engine and allow the fuel system to fully depressurize.

   Replace the Valve

   Locate the PRV on the fuel common rail. Remove the return line, unthread the faulty valve, and install the new PRV. Torque to exact OEM specifications (over-tightening can distort the rail; under-tightening will cause leaks).

   Clear and Verify

   Clear all ECU fault codes using the CNH EST, start the engine, and verify that actual rail pressure matches desired rail pressure without triggering new codes.
