Case IH 3799 (F-5571-10) - ECU – Engine Control Module (ECM / EDC): Fuel pressure relief valve is forced to open, perform pressure shock

The Engine Control Module (ECM) has detected an abnormal, sudden spike in common rail fuel pressure (often exceeding 1800 bar). To protect the fuel injectors and lines from catastrophic overpressure damage, the mechanical Fuel Pressure Relief Valve (PRV) is forced open to bleed off the excess fuel back to the tank.

   Check for accompanying codes (e.g., 3808, 3112, 3107, 3108, 3137) that point to the root cause of the pressure spike

   Perform a physical leak-down test: With the engine running under normal conditions, no fuel should exit the pressure relief valve. If fuel flows out of the PRV return line at idle, the valve is weak, stuck open, or damaged

   Check the 5-volt supply to the rail pressure sensor

   Verify that the fuel metering unit (M-PROP) on the high-pressure pump is not sticking

   Perform Pressure Shock

   Use the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to command a 'pressure shock.' This diagnostic routine intentionally spikes and drops the fuel pressure to flush out potential debris holding the valve open and to help reseat the mechanical valve spring.

   Address the Root Cause

   If the pressure shock does not resolve the issue, or if the system is genuinely over-pressurizing, replace the faulty Fuel Metering Unit on the high-pressure pump or the Common Rail Pressure Sensor based on your diagnostic findings.

   Replace the PRV (If Necessary)

   If the PRV was forced open multiple times or for a prolonged period, depressurize the fuel system, remove the old PRV from the fuel rail, and torque the new PRV to OEM specifications.

   Clear Codes

   Clear the ECM fault codes and test run the machine under load to ensure rail pressure matches the commanded parameters without blowing the relief valve.
