Case IH 3813 – Engine Control Unit (ECU) / Planter Universal Control Module (UCM): Physical Range Check low for ECU temperature sensor (Engine) / Steering Solenoid 11 – Enable / Frame solenoid 7 device failure – coil open (Planter)

Engine/Tractor Application: The ECU internal temperature sensor reading has dropped below -40.00 °C (-40.00 °F), usually caused by an internal failure of the ECU itself. Planter Application (Code 3813-03): The Planter UCM digital output connected to steering solenoid 11 is detecting an above-normal voltage when the circuit is commanded OFF, caused by a disconnected solenoid, open circuit, or short to power.

   Engine ECU: Verify if the fault is currently active and present.

   Engine ECU: Turn the vehicle key to the ON position with the Engine OFF.

   Engine ECU: Visually inspect the relevant harnesses and connectors going to the ECU for damage, bent pins, or dislocated pins.

   Planter: Check the physical connection at Steering Solenoid 11 to ensure it is plugged in.

   Planter: Use a multimeter to check the wiring harness for an open circuit or a short to power (PWR).

   Connect diagnostic tool

   Connect the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to the machine's diagnostic port.

   Re-initialize ECU

   Attempt to re-initialize the ECU and reload the appropriate data-set for the specific engine type. (Note: A call to CNH Technical Support Services (TSS) is usually required to obtain an authorization code for the ECU initialization download).

   Check fault code

   After the flash/re-initialization is complete, check to see if fault code 3813 has cleared.

   Replace ECU

   If the fault code does not clear, the internal temperature sensor is permanently failed, and you must replace the Engine Control Unit (ECU).
