Case IH 3830 – Engine Control Unit (ECU): Intake Valve Position Signal Too High / Throttle Valve Actuator: DFC for valve position sensor physical SRC high

Electrical issue where the signal voltage from the intake or throttle valve position sensor is reading higher than the expected physical range.

   Inspect the wiring harness and connectors between the Engine ECU and the Throttle Valve Actuator (TVA) / Intake Valve Position Sensor for chafing, melted insulation, or corrosion.

   Use a multimeter to test the sensor's signal wire for a short to battery voltage (12V) or the 5V reference line.

   Ensure the sensor is receiving the correct 5V reference and has a solid ground connection to the ECU.

   Connect the CNH Electronic Service Tool (EST) or a compatible diagnostic scanner to monitor the live voltage reading of the intake valve position sensor. If the voltage is pegged at maximum (e.g., 5V) regardless of throttle position, the sensor is likely shorted internally.

   Disconnect battery

   Turn off the machine, remove the key, and disconnect the negative battery cable.

   Locate actuator

   Locate the Throttle Valve Actuator (TVA) or Intake Valve assembly on the engine's intake manifold.

   Inspect and repair connector

   Disconnect the electrical connector at the actuator. Inspect the pins for moisture, corrosion, or being pushed out of the connector body. Clean and repair the connector if necessary.

   Test wiring continuity

   Test the wiring continuity from the sensor connector back to the Engine ECU harness. Repair any sections of the harness that are shorted to power.

   Diagnose internal sensor failure

   If the wiring harness tests perfectly, the internal position sensor of the Throttle Valve Actuator has failed.

   Remove defective assembly

   Unbolt and remove the defective Throttle Valve Actuator / Intake Valve assembly.

   Install replacement assembly

   Install the replacement actuator assembly and torque the mounting bolts to OEM specifications. Reconnect the electrical harness.

   Reconnect battery

   Reconnect the battery.

   Clear fault code

   Turn the ignition on and use a diagnostic scanner to clear the stored 3830 fault code from the Engine ECU.

    Verify repair

    Start the engine and verify that the code does not return and that the engine responds correctly to throttle inputs.
