Case IH 3832 – Engine Control Unit (ECU) / EDC (Electronic Diesel Control): ECU Power stages : Throttle valve actuator power stage: Short circuit to battery error

The Engine Control Unit (ECU) has detected a short circuit to battery voltage on the H-bridge power stage circuit that drives the Throttle Valve Actuator (TVA). A short to battery means voltage is bleeding into the control circuit, preventing the ECU from properly commanding the actuator.

   Disconnect the TVA electrical connector and inspect both the harness and actuator sides for water intrusion, corrosion, or bent pins.

   Inspect the wiring harness between the TVA and the ECU for chafing, melting, or pinched wires. Use a digital multimeter to check the TVA control circuits (Out1 and Out2 pins) for continuity to a 12V/24V power source while the ECU is disconnected.

   If the wiring harness is intact and shows no shorts to battery voltage, the short circuit is likely internal to the Throttle Valve Actuator's solenoid/motor.

   Note that if the short circuit failure disappears intermittently, the ECU may clear the 3832 code and activate an 'Overload failure' code in its place.

   Turn off the machine, remove the key, and disconnect the battery

   to prevent electrical damage.

   Locate the Throttle Valve Actuator (TVA)

   on the engine's air intake manifold.

   Disconnect the electrical harness connections

   to the TVA and the nearby air pressure/temperature sensor.

   Loosen the clamps and remove the intake tube

   connected to the TVA.

   Remove the mounting bolts

   securing the TVA to the intake manifold.

   Remove the faulty actuator and clean the mating surface

   on the manifold.

   Install the new Throttle Valve Actuator.

   Install and torque the mounting bolts

   to 20 - 30 N·m (15 - 22 lb ft).

   Reinstall the intake tube and tighten the clamps.

    Reconnect the electrical harness

    to the TVA and sensors.

    Reconnect the battery, clear the fault codes using a diagnostic tool, and test run the engine

    to ensure the code does not return.
