Case IH 3845 – Engine Control Unit (ECU) / EDC: Zero Fuel Calibration by Lambda (ZFL): DFC reporting error state on comparing energizing time to Max value injector 2

The engine controller has detected an error during the zero fuel calibration process for cylinder #2. The system compares the actual energizing time of fuel injector #2 to a maximum allowed threshold and finds it out of bounds. This condition is typically caused by incorrect injector programming or an internal mechanical or electrical defect within injector #2 itself.

   Check for CAN bus fault codes — diagnose CAN communication drops first, as they can trigger false injector faults

   Verify injector programming (incorrect programming cause) — connect the Electronic Service Tool (EST) and check that the injector calibration code programmed into the ECU for cylinder 2 matches the physical alphanumeric code printed on the actual injector

   Clear and retest — if the code was invalid, write the correct injector code using the service tool, clear the fault codes, and retest the system

   Reprogram the ECU

   If the diagnostic check reveals a mismatch, use the EST to write the correct injector code for cylinder 2 into the ECU.

   Replace the Injector

   If the programming is correct but the fault persists, the failure is due to an internal defect in the injector.

   Remove faulty injector

   Relieve the fuel system pressure and remove the faulty fuel injector from cylinder 2.

   Install replacement injector

   Install the replacement fuel injector.

   Program the New Injector

   You must use the EST to program the new injector's specific calibration code into the Engine ECU. The system cannot self-calibrate a new injector without this code.

   Restore Self-Learning Parameters

   If the EDC (Engine Controller) itself was replaced or flashed during this process, follow the appropriate service tool procedure to restore the engine's self-learning parameters.

   Clear codes and verify

   Clear all fault codes and run the engine to verify the repair.
