Check the cause
Check the dedicated EVGT actuator fuse (e.g., 20A Mini fuse F-203) for a blown condition.
Inspect the engine wiring harness connecting the ECU to the EVGT actuator for chafed wires, melted insulation, or short circuits, especially near the hot exhaust manifold.
Disconnect the EVGT actuator plug and inspect for water intrusion, corrosion, or pushed-out pins.
Check for mechanical binding in the turbocharger; severe carbon buildup can jam the variable vanes, causing the actuator motor to over-amp and trigger this electrical code.
Repair steps
Disconnect Power
Turn off the battery disconnect switch to ensure the ECU is powered down before servicing the electrical system.
Fuse Replacement
If the EVGT fuse is blown, replace it with a new 20A fuse. If it blows again immediately upon key-on, there is a dead short in the harness or the actuator motor itself.
Harness Repair
If wiring damage is found during the diagnostic phase, repair the broken wires or replace the specific EVGT engine harness section.
Actuator / Turbocharger Replacement
If the wiring and power supply are verified as good, the internal motor of the EVGT actuator has failed. Depending on the specific FPT engine and turbo manufacturer, the electronic actuator may not be available separately because it is factory-calibrated to the turbocharger housing. In this case, the entire EVGT turbocharger assembly must be replaced.
Relearn Procedure
After replacing the actuator or turbocharger, use the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to clear the fault codes. The ECU may need to perform an initialization/learn procedure to learn the end-stops of the new actuator.
