Case IH 3877 (DTC 647D) - ECU – Engine Control Unit (ECU): Supply UB1 short circuit to battery failure
Issue description
The Engine Control Unit (ECU) has detected that the actuator supply circuit 0 (designated as UB1) is shorted to battery voltage. This means the circuit is receiving full battery voltage when it shouldn't be, indicating either a wiring harness short to a B+ (battery positive) source, a failed actuator feeding voltage back into the circuit, or an internal ECU failure.

Check the cause
Connect the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to verify if fault code 3877 is currently active or inactive/intermittent.
Inspect the wiring harness for the UB1 supply circuit. Trace the wires originating from ECU pins 2.05, 2.17, 2.18, and 2.19. Look for chafed insulation, melted wires, or pinch points where the circuit might be touching a constant battery power wire.
Disconnect the actuators powered by the UB1 circuit one by one. Use a multimeter to check if the short to battery voltage disappears when a specific component is unplugged (indicating an internally shorted actuator).
With the harness disconnected from the ECU, test the harness-side pins for voltage. If voltage is present with the key on/engine off, the short is in the wiring. If no voltage is present on the harness but the code persists, the fault is likely internal to the ECU.
Repair steps
Power Down
Turn off the machine and disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical damage during testing.
Access the ECU
Locate the A-095 Engine ECU and carefully disconnect the main harness connectors.
Inspect Connectors
Check the ECU pins and the harness terminals (specifically the UB1 pins) for corrosion, moisture ingress, or bent pins that could bridge circuits.
Repair Wiring
If the diagnostic checks revealed a short to battery voltage in the wiring harness, locate the damaged section. Splice and repair the wire using OEM-approved heat-shrink connectors, or replace the affected harness section.
Address ECU Software
If the wiring and actuators test perfectly fine, the service manual notes that the failure mode can be an A-095 software glitch. Use the EST to check for and apply any available ECU software updates.
Replace ECU
If the software is up to date and the circuit is definitively not shorted externally, the ECU has suffered an internal hardware short on the UB1 driver. The A-095 ECU must be replaced.
Final Validation
Reconnect all components, restore battery power, clear the inactive fault codes using the EST, and run the engine to verify the code does not return.
