Case IH 3881 (DTC 757D) - ECU – Engine Control Unit (ECU): Supply UB1 short circuit to ground failure

UB1 refers to the internal voltage supply 1 dedicated to the SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) components, specifically powering the internal heaters located inside the DEF/AdBlue supply module. A short to ground means the voltage is finding an unintended path to the chassis ground, likely due to a chafed wire or an internal failure within the heater element of the supply module.

   Wait for the SCR system purge cycle to complete (up to 70 seconds after engine shutdown) before disconnecting any components.

   Inspect the wiring harness running from the Engine ECU to the DEF/AdBlue supply module. Look specifically for chafing or worn insulation rubbing against the machine's frame (external short cause).

   Check Connector 9001, pin 50 (which supplies UB1 power to the SCR components) for continuity to ground.

   Ensure all connectors on the DEF/AdBlue supply module are secured properly and free of moisture, corrosion, or bent pins.

   Isolate the short by disconnecting the harness at the supply module and testing the harness side for a short to ground. If the harness tests good, the short is internal to the DEF/AdBlue supply module's heating circuit (internal short cause).

   Power Down

   Turn off the machine, wait at least 70 seconds for the DEF purge cycle to finish, and disconnect the negative battery cable.

   Repair Wiring (If Applicable)

   If the diagnostic checks revealed a chafed wire on the UB1 circuit (Connector 9001, pin 50), cut out the damaged section, solder in a new piece of wire, and seal it with dual-wall adhesive heat-shrink tubing. Wrap the repaired harness in protective loom.

   Replace Supply Module (If Internal Short)

   If the wiring harness is intact, the internal heater in the DEF/AdBlue supply module has failed. Disconnect the DEF fluid lines from the supply module (be prepared to catch residual fluid). Disconnect the electrical connectors. Unbolt the supply module from its mounting bracket. Install the new supply module and torque mounting bolts to OEM spec. Reconnect the fluid lines and electrical connectors.

   Clear Codes

   Reconnect the battery. Connect a diagnostic tool (such as the Case IH EST) and clear the 3881 / 757D fault code.

   Test Operation

   Start the engine and allow it to reach operating temperature to ensure the SCR system initializes and the fault does not return.
