Case IH 3882 (F-3507-14) - ECU – Engine Control Module (ECM / ECU): 12/24 volt actuator supply 2 is shorted to ground
Issue description
The Engine Control Module (ECM) has detected a short circuit to ground error at the high side actuator relay with index x = 1. This means that the voltage on the power supply circuit for specific engine actuators has been pulled to ground, either due to a damaged wiring harness touching the chassis or an internal short within the connected actuator itself.
Applies to these machines
8 machines- VESTRUM CVX
- Magnum (265, 290, 310, 340, 380 CVX)
- Maxxum (115, 135, 150)
- Optum (250 CVX, 270)
- Puma (140, 150)
- Steiger (425, 620)
- Austoft 9900
- Axial-Flow (5150, 6150)
Check the cause
Visually inspect the engine wiring harness leading from the ECU to the actuators powered by Supply 2 for chafed insulation, melted wires, or pinch points against the engine block or chassis.
Disconnect the harness at the ECU (Bosch MD1CE101) and use a multimeter to check for continuity to ground on pins 2.08, 4.03, and 4.19.
Disconnect the actuators on this circuit one by one. If the short to ground disappears when a specific actuator is unplugged, that actuator has an internal short.
If the actuators are unplugged and the wire still shows continuity to ground, verify that the wiring harness itself is shorted.
Repair steps
Disconnect Power
Turn off the machine and disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent further electrical damage.
Repair Wiring
If the diagnostic checks revealed a shorted wire, locate the exact point of damage. Splice and solder the broken wire, seal it with heat-shrink tubing, and re-loom the harness, ensuring it is routed away from sharp edges or high-heat sources.
Replace Actuator
If an actuator tested internally shorted to ground, unbolt and replace the faulty actuator.
ECU Replacement
If the wiring harness and all connected actuators test perfectly fine, the internal high-side actuator relay within the Bosch MD1CE101 ECU has failed. The ECU will need to be replaced and reprogrammed by a dealer.
Clear Codes
Reconnect the battery, turn the key to the ON position, and use a diagnostic scan tool (like CNH EST) to clear the inactive 3882 / 3507-14 fault code. Run the engine to verify the code does not return.
Parts you might need
(3)Engine Control Module (ECU)
MD1CE101Manufacturer: Bosch. Exact CNH OEM part numbers vary heavily based on the specific engine calibration and machine model, but the physical Bosch hardware is MD1CE101.
Actuator / Solenoid
Depends entirely on which specific engine actuator is tied to Supply 2 on your exact machine model.
Wiring Harness Repair Kit
Standard automotive-grade wire, solder, and heat shrink for repairing chafed lines.
