Case IH 3882 – Engine Control Module (ECM) / Electronic Diesel Control (EDC): Supply UB2 short circuit to ground failure

The engine's control system has detected that the voltage supply circuit (UB2) powering specific engine actuators is shorted directly to ground, preventing the relay and its associated actuators from receiving power and functioning properly.

   Inspect the engine wiring harness for visible signs of chafing, melting, or rubbing against the engine block, frame, or moving parts.

   Disconnect the ECM/EDC connectors and the connectors at the high side actuator relay. Check for moisture, corrosion, or bent pins that could be bridging the circuit to ground.

   Using a digital multimeter, test the UB2 supply circuit (high side actuator relay 1) for continuity to ground while the battery is disconnected.

   If the circuit shows a short to ground, unplug the actuators powered by the UB2 circuit one at a time. If the short to ground disappears on your multimeter when a specific actuator is unplugged, that actuator is internally shorted.

   Disconnect Power

   Turn off the machine and disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical damage during testing and repair.

   Isolate the Fault

   Use the diagnostic steps above to determine if the short is in the wiring harness or inside a specific actuator/solenoid.

   Repair the Wiring

   If a chafed or damaged wire is found in the harness, cut out the damaged section. Solder in a replacement wire of the same gauge and seal it with marine-grade, adhesive-lined heat shrink tubing. Secure the harness with zip ties or loom clamps to prevent it from rubbing against the engine block again.

   Replace the Actuator

   If an actuator was found to be internally shorted, remove the faulty component and install a new OEM replacement.

   Reassemble and Reconnect

   Reconnect all wiring harness connectors and reconnect the battery.

   Clear Codes and Test

   Connect the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to clear the inactive 3882 / 777D fault code. Start the engine and verify that the code does not return and that the engine operates without derating or power loss.
