Case IH 3892 – Engine Control Module (ECM) / Electronic Diesel Control (EDC): SPI communication Chip 4 defective
Issue description
Critical internal hardware failure or communication breakdown within the control module itself, specifically relating to the microchip designated as 'Chip 4'.

Check the cause
Check Power and Ground: Verify that the battery voltage is within specification. Inspect the main ground straps and power supply wires to the ECM. Poor grounds or severe voltage spikes can temporarily disrupt internal SPI communication.
Inspect Connectors: Disconnect the ECM wiring harnesses and inspect the pins for corrosion, moisture, or damage. Water intrusion can short internal components.
Clear and Retest: Use the CNH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to clear the fault code. Cycle the key and run the machine. If the code 3892 returns immediately and remains active, the ECM is permanently damaged internally.
