3907

Case IH 3907 – Engine Control Unit (ECU) / EDC (Electronic Diesel Control): Injector Adjustment: IMA programming not correct for injector cylinder 3

Issue description

The IMA code programmed into the computer for cylinder 3 does not match the actual injector installed, is missing, or contains an invalid character string.

Applies to these machines

  • Machines utilizing NEF (New Engine Family) engines
  • Machines with F5 T4B engines
  • Equipment running Bosch EDC17CV52 or DCU17CV51 engine management systems

Check the cause

  1. Connect a compatible diagnostic scan tool (such as CNH EST) and read the current IMA code programmed in the Engine ECU for cylinder 3

  2. Access the engine valve cover/injector area and locate the fuel injector for cylinder 3

  3. Read the alphanumeric IMA/trim code laser-etched or printed on the top or side of the cylinder 3 injector body

  4. Compare the physical code on the injector to the code stored in the ECU to determine if they match

Repair steps

  1. Record the Code

Clean the top of the cylinder 3 fuel injector and carefully write down the unique IMA code printed on it. (If the code is completely illegible or the injector is mechanically faulty, the injector must be replaced first).

  2. Connect Diagnostic Tool

Plug your CNH EST or compatible heavy-duty diagnostic scanner into the machine's diagnostic port.

  3. Navigate to Calibration

Access the Engine ECU menu and navigate to the injector programming section (typically found under Configuration -> Fuel injectors - Configure - IMA codes).

  4. Input the New Data

Select Cylinder 3 and manually type in the correct IMA code you recorded from the physical injector.

  5. Save and Flash

Save the configuration to write the new data to the ECU.

  6. Power Cycle

Turn the ignition key to the OFF position and wait for the ECU to fully power down (usually 30–60 seconds) to lock in the memory.

  7. Clear Codes

Turn the ignition back ON, clear the 3907 fault code, and start the engine.

  8. Verify

Run the engine to ensure it idles smoothly and verify that the fault code does not return.
