Case IH 3908 – Engine Control Unit (ECU) / EDC: Injector Adjustment: IMA programming not correct for injector cylinder 5

The IMA code programmed into the computer for cylinder 5 is invalid, missing, or does not match the injector's physical parameters. This usually happens if an injector was recently replaced but not programmed, if the ECU lost its memory/calibration, or if there is an internal software error.

   Verify the machine's service history to see if the fuel injector on cylinder 5 was recently replaced without programming the new IMA code.

   Locate cylinder 5 on the engine block and retrieve the alphanumeric IMA code printed directly on the fuel injector.

   Connect the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to the diagnostic port to view the IMA code currently stored in the ECU for cylinder 5.

   Compare the code stored in the ECU with the physical code written on the injector to determine if reprogramming is required.

   Connect diagnostic tool

   Connect the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to the diagnostic port and turn the ignition key to the ON position (engine off).

   Navigate to controller

   Navigate to the Engine Controller / EDC module in the software.

   Access programming menu

   Access the injector programming or "Modified Values" menu.

   Select cylinder

   Select the data field for Injector Cylinder 5.

   Enter IMA code

   Enter the correct IMA code (the exact alphanumeric sequence punched on the injector) into the prompt.

   Press the "Save Data to Controller" button and confirm the prompt to store the data in the ECU.

   Verify repair

   Disconnect the EST, cycle the ignition key off, and then start the engine to verify the fault code has cleared.

   Address persistent failures

   If the ECU repeatedly rejects the code, throws software reset errors, or fails to hold the programming, the ECU may have an internal hardware/software defect requiring a reflash or replacement. If the injector itself is faulty or the code is illegible, the injector must be replaced and the new unit's code programmed.
