3935

Case IH 3935 – Engine Control Module (EDC / ECM): Reserved For VCM (Vehicle Control Module)

Issue description

A placeholder code indicating the engine control system registered an error state, but the root cause is generated by the Vehicle Control Module (VCM) over the CAN bus network. There is no specific engine sensor or mechanical engine failure directly associated with this exact code.

Applies to these machines

  • Magnum
  • Steiger
  • Puma

Check the cause

  1. Connect the CNH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to the machine's diagnostic port

  2. Query the Vehicle Control Module (VCM) for active or stored fault codes

  3. Inspect the CAN bus wiring lines between the EDC and the VCM

  4. Check the battery voltage, VCM power supply relays, and ground circuits

Repair steps

  1. Do NOT replace engine components

Do not replace any engine sensors, injectors, or fuel system components based on code 3935, as the fault does not originate in the engine hardware.

  2. Retrieve the Root Code

Use the CNH EST to pull the underlying fault code directly from the VCM.

  3. Follow VCM Diagnostics

Proceed with the step-by-step repair procedure dictated by the specific VCM fault code you retrieved.

  4. Inspect Harnesses

If no VCM codes are present, inspect the wiring harness connectors at the VCM. Look for moisture, corrosion, or backed-out pins. Clean the contacts with electronic cleaner and apply dielectric grease.

  5. Clear and Test

Once the underlying VCM issue is repaired, clear the codes in both the EDC and the VCM. Cycle the key and test-operate the machine to ensure the 3935 code does not return.

Parts you might need

(2)
  • Vehicle Control Module (VCM)

Varies strictly by specific tractor model, year, and configuration. Must be looked up in the CNH parts catalog using the machine's PIN/Serial Number.

  • CAN Bus Wiring Harness / Connectors

    Varies by model.
