Case IH 3976-03 - BCM – Body Control Module (BCM): Short circuit to B+ on the Cab Center Dome Light Auto Driver circuit

The control module is detecting unwanted 12V power on the dome light's control circuit. This occurs when an electrical path exists between the dome light circuit and a constant power circuit where it is not intended to exist, often due to chafed wiring or an internal component failure.

   Inspect the center dome light assembly for signs of melting, internal shorting, or physical damage.

   Inspect the wiring harness running through the cab headliner for pinch points where the harness may be crushed against the roof frame or pierced by a mounting screw.

   Disconnect the dome light assembly and use a multimeter to check the control wire for voltage. If it reads 12V (B+) when the BCM is commanding the light OFF, the short is in the wiring harness.

   If the harness tests normal, isolate the dome light assembly to check for an internal short.

   Disconnect Power

   Turn off the machine and disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical spikes during repair.

   Access the Dome Light

   Carefully remove the dome light lens and unscrew the housing from the cab headliner.

   Disconnect and Inspect

   Unplug the electrical connector from the dome light. Inspect the connector pins for melting or bridging that could cause a short to B+.

   Trace and Repair Wiring

   If the diagnostic tests pointed to a harness short, trace the wiring from the roof down the cab pillar to the BCM. Locate the chafed or pinched wire. Cut out the damaged section, splice in a new wire using appropriate connectors, and re-wrap the harness.

   Replace Component

   If the dome light assembly is internally shorted, install a new replacement unit.

   Reassembly

   Reconnect the dome light harness, secure the housing back into the headliner, and snap the lens into place.

   Test and Clear Codes

   Reconnect the battery. Turn the key ON, verify the dome light operates correctly in both manual and door-activated modes, and use a diagnostic scan tool to clear the 3976-03 fault code.
