Case IH 4001 – DV Module: Signal of Aux-stick (AUX1) - out of range low (DV module only)
Issue description
This code indicates that the voltage signal coming from the primary auxiliary remote joystick (AUX1) has dropped below the minimum acceptable threshold. This typically points to an open circuit, a short to ground in the signal wire, a loss of the 5V reference voltage, or an internal failure of the joystick's potentiometer.
Applies to these machines
4 machines- Maxxum
- Puma
- Magnum
- Steiger
Check the cause
Remove the armrest cover and visually inspect the wiring harness and connector going to the AUX1 joystick for pinched wires, chafing, or loose/corroded pins
Disconnect the joystick, turn the key ON, and verify the joystick is receiving a 5V reference and a solid ground from the DV/ARU module
Test the signal wire between the joystick connector and the DV module for continuity and verify it is not shorted to ground
Use the AFS Pro display or H-routine diagnostic menu to monitor the live voltage of the AUX1 stick. If voltage stays pinned low and wiring tests good, the joystick potentiometer has failed internally
Repair steps
Power Down
Turn off the tractor and disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical spikes.
Access the Joystick
Remove the retaining screws on the armrest console/Multicontroller to lift the upper trim panel and expose the auxiliary joysticks.
Remove the Faulty Unit
Disconnect the electrical harness from the AUX1 joystick. Remove the mounting hardware securing the joystick assembly to the armrest bracket.
Install the New Part
Seat the new Aux-stick into the bracket, secure the mounting hardware, and plug in the electrical connector.
Reassemble
Reinstall the armrest console trim and reconnect the battery.
Calibration
Turn the key ON. You must perform a calibration of the auxiliary remote valves via the tractor's display or the H-menu diagnostics so the DV module can learn the new minimum, maximum, and center voltage values of the replacement joystick.
Parts you might need
(1)Auxiliary Remote Joystick / Aux-stick Potentiometer / Remote Valve Paddle Switch
Exact part number varies heavily depending on the specific tractor model, cab configuration, and whether it is a single-axis paddle or a multi-axis joystick. Consult the Case IH parts catalog using the tractor's specific PIN/Serial Number.
